WEIGHTLIFTING – ONE WORD REFERS TO THE COMPETITIVE
SPORT OF LIFTING BARBELLS AS PRACTICED IN THE OLYMPICS.
POWER LIFTING - THIS IS ALSO A COMPETITIVE SPORT THAT
EVOLVED FROM WEIGHTLIFTING. IT CONSIST OF 3 BARBELL
LIFTS. THE SQUAT, BENCH PRESS, AND DEAD LIFT.
BODY BUILDING - (OR PHYSIQUE) IS AN ACTIVITY THAT FALLS
OUTSIDE THE NORMAL SPORTS ARENA. BODY BUILDERS DO
NOT COMPETE BY LIFTING WEIGHTS, BUT BY USING WEIGHTS
TO MANIPULATE BODY PARTS TO A CERTAIN SHAPE AND SIZE,
USING FOOD AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS TO ENHANCE
BIOLOGICAL PARTS TO FUNCTION AT THEIR OPTIMAL. THEN
BEING JUDGED BY A PANEL OF JUDGES ON SHAPE, SIZE,
SYMMETRY, AND CONDITIONING.
STRENGTH TRAINING - A PERSON USES HIGH RESISTANCE,
ALONG WITH A LOW NUMBER OF REPETITIONS TO ACTUALLY
GAIN STRENGTH.
RESISTANCE TRAINING - THE SCIENTIFICALLY CORRECT TERM
TO DESCRIBE ALL OF THE ABOVE. RESISTANCE IMPLIES THE
USE OF SOME KIND OF EXTERNAL RESISTANCE. IT COULD BE A
BARBELL, A DUMBBELL, NAUTILUS MACHINES, ELASTIC BANDS
OR OTHER FORMS OF RESISTANCE.
WEIGHT STRESS MANAGEMENT - IS A TERM WE USE TO
DESCRIBE WHAT PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL.
